The Friday January 4 puzzle by Raymond C. Young exactly fits the JimH Definition™ of a good puzzle — it seems too hard at first but then it all falls into place. I was all the way to Deborah KERR before an answer leapt out at me. Oh, and I loved the aesthetically pleasing pinwheel grid pattern too.
"Relations of Homer" completely threw me until I nearly had it all from the cross words: EPIC TALES. Oh, that kind of relations. "Put two and two together" is a great definition for INFER. I have a whine about "like the reading on a thermometer." As a bit of a math geek, I find that to be a rather pathetic clue for SCALER. What about "ones without a chance in the world"? Odd word. Click here for that answer.
