Happy Leap Day. Short post today. To answer my question from yesterday, the NYT did not in fact celebrate this rare day in puzzle form, but Patrick Berry's puzzle (answers) was up to his usual high standards.
Amy pointed out that if it were gimmicks I wanted, there were others to be had. The Chronicle of Higher Education puzzle, also by Patrick Berry, is masterful and delightful. The NY Sun crossword by Pete Muller is incredibly difficult. I would have given up without Amy's recommendation, so I'm passing it on with my encouragement as well. In the end I couldn't finish, but I did well enough to uncover the theme and get it mostly done myself. I usually hate puzzles I can't finish, but not this time. You can find them both from the Puzzle Pointers link in the left column. Give yourself plenty of time.
