Other bloggers have already critiqued the fine Saturday puzzle by Byron Walden (answers) so I'll use this post as an excuse to cover another random topic. Mr. Walden managed his grid so that there were only 64 words, i.e. he had to write only 64 clues. That's low, even for a Saturday, but is it a record? Not even close.
Back on the first Friday of this year, Raymond C. Young managed a full ten words fewer in a puzzle I really liked. That's the second lowest word count in my database. The record belongs to Frank Longo for this lovely Friday, January 21, 2005 puzzle.
